BIOGAS | 2024

In this playful installation visitors are challenged to produce biogas by feeding a biogas container with the right type of waste. Visitors select tokens from the tray at the bottom of the installation and insert them into the opening at the top of the display to feed the biogas container. The graphics on the tokens show what type of waste it represents. The biogas container has bacteria that react to this waste, showing if it is good for biogas production or not. Yuck or Yum! Subtle sounds and animations enhance the experience. The interface also shows how much biogas is generated and a timer countdown.

When the time is up visitors can see how the biogas from the tanks is separated into pure CO2, methane and bio-fertilizer and they can read about some of their uses. Finally they get a score and feedback about the biogas produced in the form of everyday-life “fun facts”.

This installation is a part of the newest “Energy” exhibition at Teknisk Museum in Oslo.
